Peter De Wint

Born: 1784, UK, England, Stoke-on-Trent, Hanley   Died: 1849

Painter. His father was a Dutch physician and his mother Scottish. Moved to London in 1802 where he trained under John Raphael Smith (1752-1812). Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1807, enrolling in the Royal Academy Schools from 1809. He was a friend of Dr. Monro (1759-1833), John Varley (1778-1842) and William Hilton (1786-1839), marrying the latter's sister in 1810. He toured Wales and in 1828 he visited Normandy. He painted some oils but is chiefly known as a watercolourist particularly favouring the landscapes of Lincolnshire. He also worked as a successful and well respected drawing master
