Publisher/Manufacturer: John Hendriks, Harrington St, Hampstead Rd, London 1830-1850 Engraving with mezzotint in black on white wove paper 293 x 357 mm. Henry Dawe’s mezzotint was first printed in London in 1830 and re-engraved by the artist on larger plates in 1832. It has a companion piece ‘They’re Saved! They’re Saved! Both prints were illegally copied by various publishers, reproduced in gift books in the following two decades and the copied images appeared on ceramic vases. A new set of engraved plates where produced in the 1850s and the images reproduced in lithographs by Currier & Ives. show object description |
