An architectural study of a stairwell within the historic Victorian baths and washhouse, Manchester. Displaying a typical style popular to the Victorian period, Desmet has adopted a unique perspective in order to record her surroundings. The sweeping staircase wraps around the foreground and gives the illusion of the viewer peering over the banister. Central to the print, the stairs climb down to a romanesque column situated between two vaulted columns which reference the the period the architect took inspiration from. Highly detailed, Desmet has used a range in mark-making techniques which manage to capture the variety of textured and patterned tile within the bathhouse interior and also the mosaic floor beneath. The print includes layers of styles in tile decoration and is met at the height of the prints boarder by two framed windows which look over the stairwell.
