An architectural study of a stairwell within the historic Victorian baths and washhouse, Manchester. Desmet has adopted a unique perspective, making full use of the length of her print in order to create depth over two stories. Foreground; a sweeping staircase guides the viewer across the prints composition and leads the eyes down the descending staircase to a decorated mosaic floor. The conservatory ceiling illuminates the stairwell, causing specs of light to bounce from surface's, creating a sense of realism. Desmet has used a full range of etching techniques within this linocut to be able to distinguish the different materials including, tile, wooden banister, glass doors and ceiling.
