Rigby Graham

Born: 1931, UK, Lancashire, Stretford   Died: 2015

Painter, printmaker, illustrator and writer. His family moved to Leicester in 1943 where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. He studied mural painting at Leicester College of Art and Design, 1949-52, where he later taught book-binding and graphic design. He received numerous commissions for murals and book illustrations, the latter including works by Spike Milligan. As a writer he published books on illustration, such as 'Romantic Book Illustration in England 1943-55', and contributed to exhibition catalogues on Hans Erni, John Piper and Anthony Gross. As an artist he is known for his, sometimes quirky, neo-romantic landscapes which are often developed into woodcuts, lithographs and etchings
