The artist spent three years working on these drawings after his imprisonment for his part in an unsuccessful attempt by a number of Liberals to rise against the Austrian goverment of Piedmont in 1821
Miniature portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). Full-length portrait of Napoleon wearing Imperial robes and laurel. He holds a second laurel in his right hand and a long staff, topped with an eagle, in his raised left hand. On the left is a small plinth decorated on one side with a soldier. Each drawn line is made from minute calligraphy which recounts Napoleon's last will and testament. Drawing is placed in a leather bound presentation box with red velvet internal lining and a brass frame with leaves and berries. On the front of the box is a gold embossed Napoleonic coat of arms depicting a crown, Imperial eagle and thunderbolt. Some foxing
