Japanese high-shouldered vase

Possibly a late Edo or early Meji period vase made c. 1850-60s in the Shigaraki Kilns, south of Kyoto in Shiga Provence, most likely for export. The shape and decorative enamel glaze banding around the neck indicate that, possibly, it was made for the export market. The imagery of the skeletons is from Japanese Yōkai or supernatural stories and is similar to the work of Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831-1889).
