Display artist/maker:

Phil Rogers

Born: 1951, UK, Wales, Newport   Died: 2020

Ceramicist. Rogers set up a pottery in Rhayader, Mid Wales, in 1984. His pots are usually hand thrown and functional; simple in form and with decoration inspired by nature such as leaves and grasses. He made traditional bottles and bowls as well as jugs and jars in the tradition of Bernard Leach. Rogers used both salt-glaze and ash glazes in his work, giving a range of colours through greys and greens of celadon to warm oranges and rich, dark tenmokus.

An influential figure in British pottery, Rogers played an active role in the Craft Potters Association and the International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth. Much sought after as a demostrator and teacher, he travelled frequently and exhibited internationally.
