Born: 1873, UK, England, Derbyshire, Boothorpe   Died: 1931, Lancashire

Ceramicist. Studied at Swadlincote School of Art before teaching at Burton-on-Trent School of Art. Whilst teaching he also worked as a decorator for the nearby Bretby Art Pottery and later for the Moore Brothers in Longton, Staffordshire. Around 1903 he moved to Lancashire where he became an important designer and painter of Royal Lancastrian lustre ware for Pilkington's Tile & Pottery Co. Ltd. He worked for the company until his death in 1931. His painted designs were inspired by Japanese ceramics and typically depicted flowers, birds, deer and fish. He also excelled in modelling and carved and relief work
