Ian Grainger

Born: 1942, Rhodesia   Died: 2007

Printmaker. Grew up in Rhodesia but moved to Britain in 1965 where he studied at Bournemouth and Sunderland. Thereafter he attended the Art Institute of Chicago, 1969-70, and won a Prix de Rome scholarship to study at the British School at Rome, 1971-73. On his return he took up a teaching post at Cardiff College of Art. He undertook a fellowship at Gregynog in 1981 and was a member of the 56 Group Wales. He lived and worked in Cardiff where he produced imaginative, detailed etchings. In 2009 Bay Art, Cardiff, and the University of Glamorgan, Pontypridd, held a retrospective of his work
