Handel Cromwell Evans

Born: 1932, UK, Wales, Pontypridd   Died: 1999, Kent, Thanet

Painter. His father was an aeronautical electrician and amateur singer and his mother a clothes designer. Studied at Cardiff College of Art, 1949-54, and later at the British School at Rome, 1962-63. Worked in Stanley Hayter's Paris studio, 'Atelier 17', 1975-76. Lived and worked in numerous countries including the Caribbean, 1959-61, America, Canada and, for much of the 1980s and 1990s, in Germany where his work was widely exhibited. As a talented pianist he became a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. He painted semi-abstract figure groups often incorporating cylindrical forms and exploring the relationship between man and machine
