Hablot Knight Browne

Born: 1815, UK, England, London, Kennington   Died: 1882, Brighton

Illustrator and painter. A satirist and caricaturist who worked under the pseudonyms ''N.E.M.O.'' and, more famously, ''Phiz''. He started as an apprentice to a line engraver at Finden's before setting up an engraving business with Robert Young in 1834. He was a friend of Charles Dickens for whom he illustrated 10 of his novels, including 'Martin Chuzzlewit' and 'David Copperfield', over a period of 23 years. He also illustrated for Henry Fielding and William Harrison Ainsworth
