Cedric Morris

Born: 1889, UK, Wales, Glamorgan, Sketty   Died: 1982, Ipswich

Painter. Son of Sir George Lockwood Morris and companion of the artist Arthur Lett-Haines (1894-1978). He began as a farmer in Canada before studying singing at the Royal College of Music and then art at the Académie Delacluse, Paris, 1914. Lett-Haines and Morris lived in Newlyn, 1919-20, Paris, 1921-26, London, 1926-29 and eventually East Anglia where they founded the East Anglia School of Painting and Drawing. Morris taught Design at The Royal College of Art, 1950-53. He was a keen gardener and developed his own iris hybrids. He painted portraits, landscapes and flowers often using impasto and bold colours
