Colin Herbert Beyné Jones

Born: 1928, UK, Wales, Newport   Died: 1967, Cardiff

Painter. Studied under Thomas Rathmell (1912-1991) at Newport College of Art, 1944-46. After national service, 1946-48, he undertook teacher training at Cardiff College of Art, 1948-51, whereafter he taught at Gowerton Grammar, 1951-57, and Quakers Yard Grammar, Treharris, 1957-61. In 1961 he was appointed Schools' Service Officer in Art, National Museum of Wales, and in 1963 H.M. Inspector (Art) Wales a post he filled until his untimely death from injuries sustained in a ladder fall. He converted to Roman Catholicism in 1957. He painted portraits, still lifes and industrial scenes of the South Wales valleys. His wife, Jean Roberts, is a fine art weaver
