Eurgain Evans

Born: 1936, UK, Wales, Betws-y-coed

Painter. Daughter of the landscape artist and craftsman Tom Evans, known as 'Tom Wern'. Eurgain studied at Wrexham Art School before winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy Schools entering as a probationer in 1959 and graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma in 1962. During this period she painted landscapes of her home area around Betws-y-Coed and Capel Garmon in Snowdonia and exhibited at least one of these works at the 1960 National Eisteddfod at Cardiff. She also submitted a painting of Capel Garmon for her final examinations at the Royal Academy. She then went into teaching and later became a lecturer in Teacher Training at Swansea School of Art. She now lives in South Wales. She is related, by marriage, to Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas
