Thomas Brigstocke

Born: 1809, UK, Wales, Carmarthen   Died: 1881, London

Painter. Son of a house painter and stained glass dealer. Studied at Sass's Drawing School in London, circa 1825-26, before working in Paris. In 1833 he went to Rome, where he met John Gibson (1790-1866) and Penry Williams (1802-1885), returning to London in 1840. He travelled to Egypt in 1847. Exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy between 1843 and 1865. He was a close friend of Cardinal Mezzofanti. He painted portraits and biblical scenes
