Brenda Chamberlain

Born: 1912, UK, Wales, Bangor   Died: 1971, Bangor

Painter, printmaker and writer. Studied at the Royal Academy but left in 1934. Shortly afterwards she moved to Llanllechid in North Wales where she worked with her husband, John Petts, on the Caseg Press. Turned to poetry during the Second World War. Travelled to post-war Germany in 1946, a visit which influenced her only novel 'The Water Castle', 1964. She won Gold Medals at the 1951 and 1953 National Eisteddfodau. She lived on the island of Bardsey, North Wales, 1947-61, and on the Greek island Hydra, 1961-66. Her poem 'Tide-Race' reflects upon her experiences of Bardsey
