Jock McFadyen

Born: 1950, UK, Scotland, Glasgow, Paisley

Painter, printmaker and designer. Son of a draughtsman. Studied at Chelsea School of Art, 1973-77. He then remained in London where he taught part-time at the Slade School of Fine Art and, in 1981, undertook a residency at the National Gallery. In 1992 he designed theatre scenery and costumes for Sir Kenneth MacMillan's ballet 'The Judas Tree' at The Royal Opera House. He is better known though as a painter of expressive portraits and figures based upon his experiences of people and culture in British cities, particularly Belfast where he recorded protestant marches in the 1980s. His recent work explores urban landscapes
