Hubert Andrew Freeth

Painter and printmaker. Studied at Birmingham College of Art, early 1930s, and at the British School at Rome, 1936-39. He worked mainly as a portraitist with sitters including Enoch Powell, Campbell Dodgson, Somerset Maugham and Gilbert Ryle. He also produced portraits and studies of working class men and, during the 1960s, a number of abstract colour aquatints. He developed his own etching technique consisting of a multiplicity of small marks
