Orovida Camille Pissarro

Born: 1893, UK, England, Epping   Died: 1968

Painter and printmaker. Often known simply as 'Orovida'. Daughter of Lucien Pissarro (1863-1944) and granddaughter of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903). She studied under her father, briefly with Walter Sickert (1860-1942), 1913, and also with the Japanese painter Tatsuo Takayama. Influenced by the latter and the 1924 exhibition of chinese painting at the British Museum, she moved away from Impressionism and embraced Eastern art painting oriental subjects, often on silk, during the 1920s and 30s. She is better known though for her animal studies, particularly tigers, including nearly 60 etchings produced between 1914 and 1954
