Born: 1958, UK, England, London

Painter and printmaker. Moved with his family to Prestwick, Scotland, in 1962. He initially studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1975-76, before enrolling in the army and undertaking various jobs including those of a bouncer and a landscape gardener. He later re-attended Glasgow School of Art, 1979-81. As a prominent member of the 'Glasgow Group' his work became popular during the 1980s. He worked as an Official War Artist in Bosnia in 1993. He moved to London in 1994 where he paints expressive, figurative compositions, primarily portraits of working class men. In 1995 he produced set designs for Mozart's opera 'Don Giovanni' and continued the operatic theme in a series of paintings based on Stravinsky's 'The Rake's Progress'. His work has attracted numerous celebrity patrons including Madonna and Bob Geldof
