Zoran Anton Music

Born: 1909, Italy, Gorizia, Bukovica   Died: 2005

Painter, printmaker and designer. Studied at the School of Fine Arts, Zagreb, under Ljubo Babic (1890-1974), 1930-35, whereafter he travelled to Spain until the outbreak of civil war in 1936. Between 1944 and 1945 he was imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp which he was able to record in a series of drawings. After the war he worked in Venice as an assistant to the painter Guido Cadorin (1892-1976) and exhibited in the 1948 Venice Biennale. During the 1950s he embraced modernism creating semi-abstract work which he exhibited at Documenta, Kassel, 1955, before returning to more figurative work based on his experiences of Dachau. He has also produced stage designs and, towards the end of his life, portraits of himself and his wife
