Born: 1916, UK, Wales, Cardiganshire, Adpar   Died: 1997, Southampton

Painter and printmaker. Son of a weaver and amateur poet. Studied at Carmarthen School of Art, 1935-37, West of England College of Art, Bristol, 1937-38, and the Royal College of Art, 1938-40 and 1946-47. As a Conscientious Objector he undertook land work during the Second World War. After graduating he worked as a graphic designer before teaching at Portsmouth College of Art, 1948-53, and Winchester School of Art, 1953-76. He won the Gold Medal at the 1956 National Eisteddfod and designed theatre sets for 'Antigone' at the 1958 Eisteddfod. As an illustrator he produced work for the 'RadioTimes' and the 'Shell County Guides'. He painted scenes of Welsh chapel life and landscapes, the latter influenced by Neo-Romanticism and, during the 1960s, by abstraction
