Charles William Taylor

Born: 1878, UK, England, Wolverhampton?   Died: 1960, Findon?

Printmaker and painter. Worked as an apprentice to commercial engravers in Wolverhampton, 1895-1905, before studying at the Royal College of Art, c.1906-08. He then taught for two years in Dover and by 1912 was lecturing at Southend School of Art where he lived at Westcliff-on-Sea. On retirement in 1939 he moved to Findon, Sussex. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and with the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. He produced detailed wood engravings, woodcuts and copper engravings of lowland landscapes, often wetlands or estuaries with wind-blown grasses and strong sunlight. He also painted in watercolour including a number of floral subjects
