Display artist/maker:

Frank Charles Medworth

Born: 1892, UK, England, London   Died: 1947, Mexico City

Painter, printmaker and illustrator. Visited Spain during the 1920s before moving to Australia where he later taught at East Sydney Technical College, 1939-47. He was a member of the Design & Industries Association in Australia and of the Australian Watercolour Institute. He produced etchings and woodcuts of biblical scenes, watercolours of views from his travels and later, inspired by Aboriginal art, experimented with abstraction. He also created textile designs, illustrated Marjorie Barnard's 'Macquarie's World', 1941, and was the author of 'Figure Drawing' and 'Animal Drawing', Faber & Faber, 1940, the latter of which reflected on his experience of instructing sketching at the Zoological Gardens in London. He was a close friend of Weaver Hawkins (1892-1977) and his wife, Muriel Medworth (1903-1964), was a painter and fashion designer. He died in an accident when visiting Mexico
