Edward Middleditch

He was born in Essex. He participated actively in the Second World War and was awarded the Military Cross. He attended the Royal College of Art from 1949-1952. He established the ‘Kitchen Sink’ school of realism which was popular at the time. He and Derrick Greaves, Jack Smith, and John Bratby painted everyday life in Post-War Britain, painting everyday scenes and objects. He later taught at Chelsea School of Art, St. Martins School of Art, and at Norwich school of Art (where he became head of fine art). In 1973, he was elected member of the Royal Academy. Middleditch exhibited widely and is represented in major and regional collections in the UK, US, Canada, and even Australia.
