Jean François Janinet

Born: 1752, France, Paris   Died: 1814, France, Paris

Engraver and balloonist. Trained under his father, at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, Paris, and under Louis Bonnet. He was a specialist for colour printing (for example colour aquatint) and created prints of works by famous contemporary artists such as Jean-Honoré Fragonard and Jean-Baptiste Greuze. In 1790, he created a series of 52 engravings depicting political events of the French Revolution. Many of his works are now kept at the Museum of the French Revolution, Vizille, France.
