Mosse Pottery

   Active: 1976-

Nicholas Mosse Pottery was established by Nicholas ‘Nick’ Mosse in 1976 after periods of training in England and Japan, including study at Harrow College of Art. Drawn to Ireland thanks to a mutual love for nature shared with his wife Susan, Nick began the pottery out of a small shed on Mosse family land in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Ireland.

Susan is the creative force behind each original and distinctive pattern. A botanical artist by trade, she draws inspiration from the natural environment surrounding the pottery. Once a pattern is developed, Nick and his team adapt it into over sixty shapes. Patterns are applied to the pottery using a traditional method dating back to the 18th century. Cut sponges are used to dab patterns onto each piece of pottery.

The pottery produces just one new pattern a year, putting early designs into the seconds shop and testing them on customers who can leave their feedback on designs on a notepad.
