Tony Clennell

Born: 1951, Canada, Ontario

Ceramicist. Clennell is best known for his thrown and assembled wood-fired pottery and works in partnership with his wife, Sheila. After obtaining degrees in business and education he headed to Banff, Alberta to pursue his passion for pottery at The Banff Centre.

After many years as a potter, Clennell returned to undertake an MFA at Utah State University, He connects himself to the British studio pottery tradition and values a period he spent with Michael Casson in 1978. The Canadian wood firer, Linda Christiansen, is also a close collaborator.

Clennell lives in Hamilton, Ontario and spends time at Pinecroft Studio, Aylmer, Ontario, originally run by hius uncle and where he first learned about ceramics. He teaches workshops internationally and is adjunct Professor of Ceramics at Sheridan College School of Craft and Design in Ontario. He was a demonstrator at the International Ceramics Festival, 2015.
