Display artist/maker:

Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker

Born: 1921, Germany, Ulm   Died: 2010, Germany, Ulm

Ceramicist, sculptor and painter. Son of painter Otto Schäffenacker (1888-1964). Studied under sculptor Diwerge and Professor Peters in Hamburg, Germany, 1946-1948, and 1949 under Rudolf Pauschinger (1882-1957) in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1948, he set up studio Schäffenacker and in 1960 established a ceramic workshop, which he closed down in 1993 and started a cooperation with a fellow ceramicist instead. He won a variety of national and international prizes and received a medal of merit for his achievements from the German government in 1986. The Künstlerhaus Ulm, Germany, staged a solo exhibition in 2006 to celebrate his 85. birthday. His studio produced decorative and utilitarian ceramics. As a sculptor, he preferably worked with materials such as stainless steel and bronze, but also with wood and stone. The commissions he received included, for example, wall reliefs for public and private buildings.
