Keramik Ruscha

   Active: 1948-1996

Rudolf Schardt took over the Klein & Schardt factory in Rheinbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany founded by his father Georg and renamed the company “Ruscha” as a combination of Rudolf’s first and second names. Ruscha became a leading manufacturer during the West German Art Pottery age and became known for its innovative shapes and ‘Fat Lava’ glazes.

Cilli Wörsdörfer was responsible for the art pottery department in the 1950s and was famous for her handpainted designs including "Milano" and "Zebra". Otto Gerharz was production director from 1951 and devised the "Vulkano" glaze. Kurt Tschörner created most of the shapes. Other notable designers were Ernst Borens, Hans Welling and Adele Bolz.

The company became part of the Scheurich group after 1996.
