Conor Wilson

Born: 1964, UK, Northern Ireland, Belfast

Ceramicist. Wilson studied for his BA in 3D Design (Ceramics) at Bristol School of Art and Design (UWE), 1988-91, and for his MA in Ceramics at Cardiff School of Art and Design (UWIC), 1991-92. In 2010, he won the Jerwood Contemporary Makers prize. He completed his PhD at the Royal College of Art in 2016. Having held a variety of lecturing positions, for example, at the City of Bristol College and Cardiff Metropolitan University, he has been course leader for MA Ceramics at Bath Spa University since 2016. He is based in Bristol where he has his studio and gas-fired trolley kiln. His works include public commissions, e. g. a brick floor feature at the City of Bristol College (2000), and smaller, more personal creations. Rather than aiming for perfection, he is interested in the process of the making, the engagement of the body with the material, and likes producing ambiguous objects. Wilson has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe as well as oversees in the US and the Republic of Korea. His works are held, among others, in international private collections and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
