Display artist/maker:

Christopher Corr

Born: 1955, UK, England, London

Illustrator. Born in London to Irish Parents. Studied Graphic Design at Manchester Polytechnic and was awarded the Leverhulme Travelling Scholarship to the USA in 1979. On his return he completed a Masters at the Royal College of Art where he won the RCA drawing prize. His work is greatly inspired by his travels to places like India, North Africa and New England, and colour is also hugely important to him. He is fascinated by the emotional effect of colour, viewing it as the place where art meets science. He has received many awards for his work, notably the Chelsea Arts Club Graphics Prize, the D&AD Silver Award and the Association of Illustrators Silver Award for his work on Vikram Seth’s book ‘A Suitable Boy’. He has provided illustrations for numerous books, most often children’s travel stories and most recently centering on a bus journey in Burkino Faso. Corr created a millennium stamp for Royal Mail about the UN Peacekeeping force in Bosnia, and has also been commissioned by Qantas, Transport for London, National Aids and UNICEF among others. He continues to live and work in London, teaching at Goldsmiths University and occasionally West Dean College in West Sussex.
