Eirini Boutasi

Born: 1974, Greece

Printmaker. Graduated with an MA in Printmaking from Aberystwyth University in 2012, then went on to spend two years attending the Professional Printer Program at the Tamarind Institute, New Mexico, USA. Before attaining her degree she completed a residency at the School of Art at Aristoteleion University, Thessaloniki, Greece. During the interim between graduating and moving to the USA, Boutasi worked an internship at Keystone Editions in Berlin, Germany followed by an artist residency at ‘ace, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She combines expressive drawing with systematic printing, which she explains in her artist statement: “I have used the potential of printmaking for variation and repetition. The drawings on the printing surface are printed in a sequence strictly following an arithmetical system of combinations that has been set. The drawing itself is quick, organic and personal as opposed to the system I follow for printing.” Her work was exhibited at the Hong Kong International Graphic Fiesta in 2010, the Northern Print International in Newcastle in 2011, and has also been exhibited widely in the UK and abroad with Aberystwyth Printmakers.
