Topographical and marine artist. Son of the Swiss sculptor Abraham Wäber. Pupil of Johann Ludwig Aberli in Berne, 1767-70, where after he studied at the Académie Royale in Paris and at the Royal Academy Schools in London. Between 1776 and 1780 he was the official artist of Captain Cook's Third Voyage to the Pacific and the West coast of America in search of the North West Passage. He also designed stage sets and costumes in collaboration with Philippes de Loutherbourg. He painted landscapes from tours to Switzerland, Italy, Wales and France
