Painter and illustrator. Son of a portrait painter who died in 1857 before he could establish much recognition. Studied at Manchester School of Art, 1859-60, but received little formal painting tuition thereafter. Exhibited at the Dudley Gallery in 1866 and subsequently, was elected an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1867.
