Georgina Harriett Bowers Edwards

Born: 1836   Died: 1912, UK, England, Hertfordshire, Chipperfield

Illustrator. Worked for Punch magazine 1866-76 making humorous illustrations. Throughout her career she made hundreds of initial letters, vignettes and illustrations of social comment. Inspired by incidents she saw whilst out hunting, her subject matter is largely made up of horses and hounds. She criticised herself for her subject matter becoming too personal, as she overheard negative stories about her in the hunting field, and eventually gave up working for the magazine. At this time she was also contributing to other weekly magazines such as London Society and Once a Week. She also illustrated children’s stories, including Castles and their Heroes and The Little Child’s Fable Book, both published in 1868
