Karolina Larusdottir

Born: 1944, Iceland, Reykjavik

Printmaker. Studied at Sir John Cass College, London from 1964-5, the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford from 1965-7 and Barking College of Art from 1977-80. In 1986 she was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers (RE), ten years later the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS), and in 2014 she was made an honorary member of both. She is also an elected member of The New English Art Club. She lived and worked in Britain for nearly fifty years, but now lives back in her homeland of Iceland. Her paintings and hand-made etchings are often inspired by her childhood in Iceland and her grandfather’s hotel in Reykjavik, the Hotel Borg. She has exhibited widely in both solo and group shows, being the focus of prestigious exhibitions in Britain, Europe, the USA and Africa. The Royal Academy has twice used her paintings to advertise the summer exhibition. Larusdottir has received many art prizes, notably a special award at the Premio Biella Internazionale per L’Incisione in Italy in 1990 and the Graphic Artist of the Year at Islensk Grafik 2005. She has also been commissioned on occasion by the Icelandic Government to create work for presentation to visiting dignitaries. Her work is featured in numerous private and public collections worldwide, including The British Museum, London, The Vatican, H.M Queen Elizabeth and the Icelandic National Collection. Her biography was published in Iceland in 1993.
