Lucien Marcelin Gautier

Born: 1850, France, Aix-en-Provence   Died: c.1915, Paris

Printmaker. He initially studied art in Aix-en-Provence before moving to Paris where he continued his training under the painter and etcher Léon Gaucherel (1816-1886). In Paris Gautier began to etch and engrave plates after the work of Corot and Charles Jacque. By 1875 he was making etchings from his own designs and went on to create scenes of Rome, Venice, London and various French cities including his large views of Paris and Marseilles that were published by 'L'Art' during the 1880s. He received medals and awards in France in 1884, 1894 and 1900
