Born: 1933, UK, England, Wigan

Printmaker and painter. Studied at Wigan Art School, 1950-54, and the Slade School of Fine Art, 1954-56, before attending both the Ecole des Beaux Arts and Academie Julian in Paris, 1956-58. In France he worked alongside artists such as Giacometti, Severini, Soulages and Cornielle but also, importantly, had contact with the printmakers Stanley William Hayter and Gerard Patris. On his return to England he was appointed lecturer in lithography at the Slade, 1958-98, but also took on the responsibility of managing the Curwen Studio. Over 50 years later, he still remains Studio Director. In this role Jones has been instrumental in helping numerous modern British artists to create prints including Moore, Ceri Richards, Herman and Hockney. His own work in lithography mainly explores abstract themes in warm reds and browns. He was a co-founder of the Printmakers' Council for which he has served as President and Chairman. He has also been awarded an MBE and an Honorary Doctorate
