Display artist/maker:

Roger Harris

Born: 1942, Plymouth

Printmaker. Studied at Kingston College of Art and Richmond College of Art. First received recognition in 1978 when his print ‘Swan’ was chosen for inclusion in the Barcham Green printmaking competition, and subsequently purchased by Kent County Council. He has exhibited widely in both group and solo exhibitions, notably at Bankside Gallery, London, Barbican, London, 3D Gallery, Bristol, the Mall Gallery, Oxford Gallery, Montpellier Gallery, Stratford upon Avon and the Royal Academy of Arts, London. He became a member of the Printmakers Council, London, in 1981, and was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) in 1994. Harris works primarily in mezzotint, stating for the RE: “For me, mezzotint is the most beautiful form of printmaking with its deep rich surface, and drawn images can in some lights appear and disappear giving a mystery to the work.” He won the Polock-Krasner Art Foundation Award, New York, USA, in 1997, and was awarded 2nd Prize at the Cleveland International Drawing Biennale in 1993. He currently lives and works in Gloucestershire.
