Display artist/maker:

Nicholas Homoky

Born: 1950, Hungary, Vas County, Sárvár

Ceramicist. After moving to England as a child in 1950, Homoky studied at Bristol Polytechnic (1970-73) and the Royal College of Art (1973-76). He set up a studio in Cardiff in 1976, moving to a new studio in Bristol in 1979 and began teaching at Bristol Polytechnic (now the University of the West of England), where he is currently the Head of Ceramics.

Homoky is seen as an innovative potter whose work mainly focuses on the vessel, mainly viewed as a visual object. He achieves this through deconstruction of both the visual and practical elements which are re-interpreted as a visual composition. Homoky is mainly concerned with line and form, though his work is also formed through interests in painting, sculpture, folk art, and design.

Homoky has taught further afield, across continental Europe and the in the USA, and his work has been exhibited widely and forms part of many important public collections worldwide.
