Display artist/maker:

Alexander Adams

Born: 1973

Painter and printmaker. Studied at Wrexham Art College, 1991-92, and Goldsmiths' College of Art, 1992-95. Since leaving college he has exhibited widely around the UK and abroad including his exhibition 'Alexander Adams: Works on Paper' at the School of Art in 2005. Since 1994 he has used no colour in his work instead restricting himself to monochrome paintings and black and white linocuts. His subjects include woodland, crowds of people, Egyptian mummies and 'portraits' - the latter characteristically headless, faceless or having their facial features obliterated by a splash of paint. The lack of colour and the denial of identity are deliberate acts of negation by Adams. His work has been patronised by entertainers Paul O’Grady and Michael Barrymore
