Franz Joseph Manskirch

Born: 1768, Germany, Ehrenbreitstein   Died: 1830, Danzig

Painter. Also known as 'Franz Joseph Manskirsch'. Son of the German painter Bernard Gottfield Manskirch. Moved to London in 1793 where he worked as an illustrator for Rudolph Ackermann (1764-1834). He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1793 and 1819. He painted battle scenes and landscapes of Britain and Germany, the latter including a commission for the Empress of France to paint a series of views on the Rhine. He worked in Frankfurt, c.1819-22, before settling in his home town of Danzig
