Michael Eden

Born: 1955, UK

Ceramicist. He studied art at Blackburn College of Technology and Design, and 3-D design at Leeds Polytechnic, in 1981 he established a pottery with his wife, Vicky in Kendal, Cumbria. They produce contemporary functional slipware with simple proportions, strong, inventive shapes and bright colours. In 1987 they moved to Hale, Cumbria from where they run courses in ceramics as well as producing their own work. During the 1990s, the Edens made study trips to Hungary, Portugal and France researching contemporary slipware for their co-written book Slipware, Contemporary Approaches (A&C Black 1999). In 2001-2 they curated the touring exhibition of slipware The Snake in the Garden which opened in Aberystwyth. Michael Eden is currently study for an MPhil at the Royal College of Art. In 2005 he was awarded the Donald Potter Prize from the Conran Foundation
