Tom Barnett

Born: 1972, UK, Dorset, Dorchester

Ceramicist. He graduated with a degree in sculpture at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1995 and travelled to Shigaraki, Japan to work in 1997. He completed an MA in Ceramics at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 2001. In 2003 he participated in the International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth with his Terminus Firing Project, part of his work with 'symbolic' kilns. These kilns shift the emphasis away from the fired objects and make the process of construction and firing of the kiln the art work in itself. The work in Aberystwyth was a model of the back of the Arts Centre itself and created a spectacular effect when fired. The work remained on site for over a year but eventually disintegrated.
