Jeroen Bechtold

Born: 1953, Netherlands

Ceramicist. He trained to become an art teacher at Academy voor Beeldende Vorming at Amersfoort, Holland (1972-1978) and went on to study ceramics and design at the Rietveld Academy of Amsterdam. This was followed by an apprenticeship at Rosenthal’s in Germany in the early 1980s where he first designed ceramics as well as glass. In the mid 1990s he travelled to Yixing China where he first started to develop virtual teapots. In 1998 while working in Canberra, Australia, he came across CAD/CAM computer software, usually used by architects, and started creatings 'virtual ceramics', which may or may not be transformed into reality. Working in porcelain, he began to make city scapes, creating the 'Manhattan Series' in 1998, and has continued to make architectural forms since. He was a demonstrator at the International Ceramics Festival 2003
