Display artist/maker:

Christy Keeney

Born: 1949, Ireland, Donegal

Ceramicist. He studied art and ceramics in Letterkenny, Donegal and Limerick before moving to London to do a MA in Ceramics at the Royal College of Art in 1984. As an art student he enjoyed taking portrait photographs which he developed in to figurative ceramic sculptures. Towards the end of the 1980s his work became less 3-dimensional and more flattened. His influences range from South American Quimbaya (AD 300-1550) sculpture to sculptures by Picasso. His expressive figures have been commissioned by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, HRH The Prince of Wales and the Rt. Hon. John Butcher MP. He works in Donegal and has recently stopped making ceramics to concentrate on abstract oil painting. He was a demonstrator at the International Ceramics Festival, Aberystwyth in 2001
