Vineet Kacker

Born: 1965, India, New Delhi

Ceramicist. Born in New Delhi, India, Kacker studied architecture from 1983-1988 at the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi. While travelling through the Himalayas in 1989, he came across the Andretta Pottery in the Kangra Valley and was immediately seduced by the craft. He studied ceramics under Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith at the Golden Bridge Pottery in Pondicherry. In 1998 he spent three months at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and later worked with Sandy Brown and Alan Caiger-Smith.

Kacker is influenced by Buddhist culture and imagery and enjoys the combination of old and new. He makes contemporary vessel forms in wood-fired stoneware which carry echoes of ancient objects. When he was working in Cardiff, Kacker’s work appeared in the touring exhibition of ceramics in Wales 'The cat Scratched little Johnny', 1999. He is a recipient of the Charles Wallace Fellowship and a Fulbright grant, with his work forming part of various collections across Europe and Asia.
