Scottie Wilson

lllustrator. Scottie Wilson moved to Glasgow as a young child. He did not do well at school and joined the Scottish Rifles to fight on the Western Front during World War 1. He moved to Toronto, Canada in 1931 and opened a seond hand shop. He began to draw on the table, using an ink pen that had come in to the shop, and became a self-taught artist. He returened to London in 1945, and exhibited his work which was admired by Picasso and André Breton. In the 1960s, he started drawing on plates and was then commissioned by Royal Worcester to design a series of dinnerware. The pattern was nased on Native AmericanTotem Poles which he had studied in Canada, but not popular with the general public and ceased production in 1965.
